Flashback is a regular feature of the Hamilton Spectator that reopens the vault of archive photos and updates them with snapshots from today. In this pair of photos, a historical scene (above) looks west on Barton Street at Parkdale Avenue North. Below, is modern-day Barton Street, looking west from Parkdale.

  1. This photo has been captioned incorrectly. The old photo shows the old intersection of Barton and Parkdale which is now Melvin and Parkdale, as Barton St E was re-aligned over a new bridge across the Red Hill Valley in the late 1960’s.

  2. I remember Paddy Greene’s because my brothers went there from Hillfield which was on the opposite corner. Also, my grandfather owned Parkdale Avenue for his farm from Main Street to Burlington Street on the West side. Loved all of these pictures!
